Portfolios > Trees, Moths, and Rains

The drawings are in three groups: Trees, Moths, and Rains. All of them are about dispersion, shifting, and blurring of borders. The drawings are very specific. They have a place, my native town of Varna, Bulgaria. In my mind they are almost like postcards, but with an unexpected twist. The trees are typical of the coastlines there: maple, catalpa, mimosa, sumac. I see the drawings as brutally intimate. They have an intense contrast between something scary, even terrifying, on one side, and beautiful on the other. The figures are falling and deteriorating, but as they fall, they turn into something beautiful like petals, seeds and moths. The transformation is graceful. The desire to capture movement, falling, fluttering, swirling, is inherent in the drawings. I am fascinated by the main movement in a drawing as well as all the secondary movements that come in opposition or as a result of the main one.
