Internal Landscapes
I use a hybrid of recognizable forms--human, animal, plant--but treat them in unexpected ways. I am fascinated by the border where beauty and ugliness interchange; where form shifts, becomes misplaced, out of context or in an unexpected context. I look into the fragility of systems that comes about either through internal tensions or external interventions. I am interested in disease, the corruption of systems, systems malfunctioning; in awe at both life’s fragility and boundless resilience. I explore the weakness, the ailment of a system; not so much out of curiosity, but with the understanding that this very same weakness shows that the organism is still alive. In one way or the other, I am depicting my own body, along with the bodies of the people with whom I am connected.
