The Labyrinth
“The Labyrinth” is a fifty-meter installation of my drawings on silk in an abandoned stone quarry near the village of Kiulevtcha, Bulgaria. Installing a large labyrinth of my drawings in a public setting, where people would be able to walk through it and experience it as an architectural structure which revealed my imagery, was an event I had been trying to create since I began working in this medium. I chose a location in my native land, the cultural world of the Minotaur. The quarry highlighted the fragility of the silk in contrast to the monumentality of the rocks, showing a connection between past and present, temporary and permanent.
"The Labyrinth" Installation includes drawings from a few different series of paintings on silk: Moths and Angels (2011), Internal Landscapes (2011), Ribbons and Scissors (1999) and more…
