Water By the Fountains was installed in the village of Kiulevcha, 80 kilometers from Varna. For this, we used the 110 historic stone drinking fountains built in the village at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. Only two of these fountains, which were the property of the village, were still functioning. Four were known to have been stolen, dismantled, and moved into the yards of newly-built private homes in the village. A number have been covered by vegetation and were slowly disappearing. We installed by the fountains translucent plastic water containers of the kind that water is commercially sold in these days and invited villagers and participants to again “drink water from the fountains”.
